Venice Biennale 2015

The Grand Canal

Of all the cities and places in Europe, I love Venice the most. It has all the things that float my boat (no pun intended!).  Water, architecture, Italian, light, Art, and Italians.  It's almost a no wheel city. No cars, trucks, and bicycles. Didn't see one Hipster in the whole city, a contrast to Barcelona. I love to walk, and it's a place for walking. The Vaporetto is the water bus that takes you through the Grand Canal, and the view is grand indeed.  Riding it is always a Grand experience for me.

St. Mark's

The Biennale is the World's Fair of Art. Each country represented by a pavilion in the Garden location. At the Arsenal there are more artists housed in a building that is worth the ticket itself. This year I was joined by a dear friend Bob. We checked his pedometer on his phone and one day we walked 6.5 miles!  All the art is modern, and mostly conceptual, video, and there are plays and music that we did not see in our brief stay.

I did not get the names of the artists. That was my being relaxed, and having fun with my friend. Some great surprises...the fiber optic maze garden, and a wall (in 2 locations) of exquisite drawings.
Even the snack shop had fun crazy painted walls and furniture.

I hope in 2 years I can go back. But I will go early, or in October, as the heat and tourists were a bit much in August. Art, and Venice paired are a beautiful cocktail for your eyes to drink in. Maybe one day you too will go, or comment if you have been.

Sam had to have a fresh hot pretzel while we were at the Brandenburg Gate.  The vendor smiled and said: "She's not really good advertising for my product!"  LOL.

Day 178 Never Forget

Day 178

Sam II stands in front of the Holocaust Memorial.  It takes up a square block.  Hundreds (maybe more) of cement squares representing those who died. The ground is pitched, so that when you walk into the center, the squares get taller and taller.  Eventually they are over your head. At this point I became overwhelmed with grief and sadness. It was a week ago I was there, and I can still see and feel the power of this interactive sculpture.

Day 159 Good Bye Denver

Day 159

Sam had a great time in Denver.  The photo ops were many.  The time ran short.  She will be back again when the botanic garden is in full swing, and the summer mountains are calling.

Sam made new friends in Denver. Susie, Bruce, and Ella. Susie went to UNM, and dons a cool skull t-shirt.  Look how happy Sam is!

I am finally caught up in posting!  One photo a day...perhaps 2 some days, as we are almost ready for our travel to Germany. Woot!

We went to a store in SOHO called Evolution.  Sam got so excited when she saw  a full size skeleton hanging outside the door!  I imagine she felt like she had found "HER PEOPLE!"

For those of you who love skulls and skellies, this is your place.  The employees were so wonderful, and welcoming to Sam. They carried her up and down flights of stairs, and even gave her a tote bag.
She really hated to leave.
